Application Developer - Special Skills 4 month contract in Bloomfield, CT Experience in a Healthcare, Pharmacy, or Managed Care environment strongly preferred. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES DUTIES: This position is responsible for the implementation and support of application development projects originating from detailed project requirements. • Design - based on requirement definitions, produce standardized, detailed technical specifications. • Experienced mainframe, COBOL, DB2 knowledge. • Work within time constraints to meet deadlines. Identify and communicate issues with project deliverables. • Develop and execute on technical specifications, workflow development, coding, testing, implementation, risk management, and post-implementation review. • Monitor problem reporting system and provide corrective solutions to defects and operational issues as assigned by manager. • Works closely with client and IT management and staff to identify application development solutions, new or modified programs, reuse of existing code through the use of program development software alternatives, or integration of purchased solutions or a combination of the available alternatives. • Ability to understand the business objectives and technology as well as underlying data requirements to support product needs. • Demonstrated ability to work at both the conceptual and very detailed levels. • Ability to research and evaluates alternative solutions and recommends the most efficient and cost effective application programming solution. • Ability to code new or modified programs, reuse existing code through the use of program development software alternatives and/or integrates purchased solutions. • Ability to document, test (unit and integration), implement and provide on- going support for the applications. • Proven ability to problem solves and makes quick, decisive and informed action on time-sensitive issues and problems. SKILLS >> QUALIFICATIONS: • BS in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience required. • 8 - 10 years minimum experience with application development in a Senior Programmer role. • Operation systems experience specific to mainframe Windows XP and Unix, AIX preferred. • A technical skill-set including programming experience with COBOL/DB2, JCL, Easytrieve, Focus, QMF, MVS, and Endeavor. • Database experience including DB2 • Debugging tool experience (i.e. Expediter). • Demonstrated success building strong working relationships with customers (business partners), vendors, and technology partners • Direct experience facilitating the integration and interfacing of multiple systems including demonstrated success in selecting and using technologies to support business needs • Direct experience with data conversions. • Thorough understanding of a technical environment and program application development life cycle. • Ability to take ownership of work assignments. • Ability to work with project manager and business analyst to accomplish tasks. • Ability to work on multiple projects. • Strong communication skills. • Knowledge of best practices of a high performing IT organization. • Creativity and innovation in approaching ways to solve business problems using information technology. • Excellent organizational and time management skills. • Strong work ethic. • Experience in a Healthcare, Pharmacy, or Managed Care environment strongly preferred. EDUCATION : Bachelors Degree
